HTC Vive Wireless Adapter
Now the Vive Wireless Adapter is out for general purchase (https://www.vive.com/uk/wireless-adapter/) a number of reports of an installation error are being seen.
The adapter gives that much-needed freedom of movement in exchange for a bit more hardware and some new software.
The Vive team have done a great job of offering a step-by-step out of the box installation experience on www.vive.com/setup/wireless to take you through installing the PCI-e WiGig card into your PC, download the software and get everything up and running.
The Problem - “Failed to install Displaylink”
However when installing the software if you get the error “Failed to install Displaylink”, the suggestion of rebooting and starting again does not typically work.
As it happens the problem is with the new hardware not playing nicely with existing installations of SteamVR and the remedy is pretty straight forward - reinstall SteamVR.
The Solution - reinstall SteamVR
Open up Steam
At the top of the screen, go to Library and choose Tools
Navigate down to SteamVR
Right-click on SteamVR and choose Uninstall
Wait until it says “Not Installed” and then right click on SteamVR and choose Install
Once reinstalled, go back to the ViveWirelessSetup.exe that you have downloaded from Vive and run setup again.
